Cameron Cresswell became the big hero when Start beat Arendal Football 3-2 in a dramatic 2nd round match in the NC at Norac Stadium Wednesday evening. The Briton scored all the Kristiansanders’ goals in the match Start had to play with one man less in one hour.
– This means an insane amount to me. I have waited a long time to score more goals, which have been missed in my game. In addition, winning a tough match with 10 players for so long is fantastic, says the sympathetic Briton.
Cameron Cresswell gave Start the lead in the match a few seconds before the break, when he did not get a full hit, but the ball still rolled into the corner. By then, the yellow and blacks had been 10 men in a quarter of an hour after Henrik Robstad’s expulsion.
Arendal got a maximum start in the second half, when Kristian Eriksen equalized two minutes into the round. Luckily for the guests, Cresswell answered with his second for the day just three minutes later. And what a goal it was. From a slightly oblique angle, he glued the ball up in the longest cross.
– I did not think, I just shot. I saw it was an opening, and luckily the ball went into the top corner, says Cameron, who ran straight towards the Start fans to receive a well-deserved tribute for the cannon scoring.
However, there were several goals in this classic of a cup match. In the 76th minute, Preben Skeie from Vennesla rose the highest and headed beautifully in 2-2.
Should there now be extra innings on the tired Start players who had run off their socks? No, Cameron Cresswell did not want any of that. Four minutes before the end, the 22-year-old put his third, and the hat trick was a fact.
– When was the last time you scored a hat-trick in an important match, Cameron?
– When I was 17 years old against Manchester United for Derby under 18 years old. But this was my first as a professional player. This was a great night for me, smiles Cameron Cresswell, who brought the match ball home to Kristiansand.
