Swimming youth selected for leadership program in Lillehammer

Previous Leadership Course for Youth Participants Embla Gudbrandsen (Stavanger SK) and Mathias Gundrosen (Haldens SK) applied for the Lillehammer Young Leaders Program and were selected to participate.

Lillehammer Young Leaders Program (LYLP) is an investment in young leadership and international cooperation with a focus on developing leadership skills and expanding networks across sports and nations. A program that suited young and ambitious Embla (20) and Mathias (20) well. Both agree that the Swimming Association’s Leadership Course for young people was a door opener and motivator for them to participate. They think youth engagement is incredibly important.

Embla tells us this after the last LYLP collection:

«I think the course was absolutely fantastic! Incredibly exciting to get to know so many committed young people across different sports and not least nationalities. Always interesting with the exchange of experience and discussion of issues one encounters, as a young person in sports. The contributions of the various speakers were incredibly engaging and instructive, and gave me a deeper understanding of how the sport is run as well as inspiration to want to invest even more. The organizers of the course were incredibly talented and attentive people, who facilitated good professional discussions and fun social discussions, whether we met physically or digitally. “

Mathias says that «LYLP 2021 was a fun, social and educational program that helped to create a network across both sports and nations. At the same time, it contained a lot of useful and educational knowledge about so much in sports, especially young leadership in sports. It was very nice to share experiences with other young people in sports and learn from each other. I got a lot of input and experiences that I will take with me further. Both as a trainer and leader in swimming and sports in general, but also in everyday life. I hope I get similar offers and opportunities later to develop myself even more and gain more experience. “

What role do they have in the club?

Embla now has a role as swimming coach and instructor in Stavanger Swimming Club, in addition to District Judge in Rogaland swimming district.

Mathias is an instructor and trainer in Halden’s Swimming Club, and adds that he wants to take Trainer 2 education during the year and eventually take over the course management in the club (lifesaving and adult swimming courses). He also aims to go from youth representative to ordinary board member of Halden Sports Council to the annual meeting if possible.

We wish them the best of luck! We will probably see more of these two representatives in the future.
